I read an article on the Women's bill by Suhasini Haider in today's 'THE HINDU'....she says that merely granting a reservation of 33% will not play a major role in women empowerment.....she states the example of the prominent women heads of the Indian subcontinent like Indira Gandhi,Benazir Bhuto,Bandaranaike,Chandrika Kumaratunga,Khaledha zia and Sheik Haseena and brings to our notice that not much development were brought out or was not executed in full pledge for women in their period of power though they were women themselves...it was an easy access to power for them because of influential father or husband.
I completely agree with her..increasing the number of seats will not be the solution for women empowerment in a long run....these seats will be filled in by the daughters or wives of influential political heads....or women will be put in power but pup-petted by their male relatives.i personally know many politicians who have made their wives to stand in elections instead of them when their constituencies were reserved for women....
The change should be brought out in a more broad spectrum.why is it not easy for the women without any strong political family back up to shine in politics???i know that it is not easy for men too...but at least a one third of them make it in contrast to their women counter parts where the percentage is very low.....how many families are willing to send their women in to politics and back them up???
There are many women out there in various fields and various scenarios who are toiling for a recognition for themselves and a secure future for their families...this Bill is not a big helping hand for them....
this is just my opinion.....
